Located on a bright downtown corner, Altro Paradiso serves chef-owner Ignacio Mattos' light, satisfying takes on Italian cuisine: a beloved fennel salad with provolone cheese, arancini dipped in Calabrian chili oil, and house-made candele cacio e pepe, to name but a few classics. Though Altro frequently ranks among the best places to eat in New York City, it's a pretty laid-back place that tends to attract quite a few regulars from the neighborhood.
At the moment, we are serving guests on our heated patio and in our dining room. We’re also providing delivery and takeaway services, including pastas, pantry items, sweets, and other dishes to enjoy at home.
Ignacio Mattos, Owner and Chef
Ignacio Mattos is the chef-owner of New York restaurants estela, Café Altro Paradiso, and Flora Bar. Born in Uruguay, he has a bold, singular style inspired by the city he now calls home, time spent in Europe and South America, and the mentorship of chefs Alice Waters, Francis Mallmann, and Judy Rodgers. Mattos first learned to make pastas and ragùs from his Italian grandmother, and he was the chef of Manhattan’s beloved Il Buco for five years.
In 2017, Esquire named Ignacio America’s Chef of the Year. His first cookbook, Estela, was ranked one of 2018's best by the New York Times Book Review.

Reservations are available via Resy. Please note Altro Paradiso is now a vaccination-only restaurant.
We now require all guests that are dining indoors to show record that they are fully vaccinated. Accepted forms of vaccination record include:
- Excelsior Pass or any digital pass
- Physical vaccination card or a picture of the physical vaccination card
- Email confirmation confirming fully vaccinated status
Guests who are not vaccinated are still welcome to join us outdoors on the patio.
